500 TYPES OF DIABETES
It’s a subject that’s neither interesting nor uninteresting for those who don’t have diabetes (although they may not know they have it), but it’s very interesting for everyone else. And how many of them are there? Divide the planet’s entire adult population by 11 and you’ll get the number.
Everyone used to think there were only two types of diabetes; I thought this myself. Scandinavian researchers, however, have come to a different conclusion – there are five. And if they are correct, treatment will get better and more precise.
But this discovery won’t rock the world overnight. Moreover, there are a lot of variations based on geography and genetics – in different countries, the disease can carry on with its own peculiarities. Some researchers won’t even rule out additional types. There are not just two, nor five, but maybe five hundred types.
What happens next? The Swedes and Finns will pursue treatment according to their classifications, and we’ll have to wait. But you can’t wait to get your vision checked, if diabetes is present.
Yes, I always or almost always finish with this, and you think that it’s just advertising. But believe me, macular ischemia, for example, is no joke, and has nothing to do with advertising.
