Do you think that eyelashes are solely for beauty? Nothing in nature is created for beauty only.Their function has never been particularly studied before, but now the time has come.
Students were sent to the American Museum of Natural History to measure the length of animal eyelashes, and almost all, from giraffes to hedgehogs, were about a third of the width of the eye. It’s the same with Homo sapiens, who invented eyelash extensions.
With this in mind, scientists began to search for an explanation. They created an artificial eye and floated it in water, exposed it to the elements, and then measured the water’s evaporation as well as the amount of debris that became stuck in the eye.
It was that length of eyelash – about a third of the width of the eye – that was optimal. Who would have guessed it? Nature is correct.
Scientists argue that, contrary to our belief that longer is better, beauty does not necessarily correlate with function, especially if glued on like false lashes.
People with thin lashes often risk getting eye infections.
