Doctor Benjamin, why is daily exposure to sunlight so good for the eyes?  I thought you weren’t supposed to look at the sun…

Daylight can help your depth perception, the ability to focus, and partially offset the negative effects of sitting in front of a computer in poor lighting.  There is a theory that sunlight helps to produce dopamine, which affects the growth of the eyeball.

Let’s return to the topic of cataracts.  The last time we talked you used the phrase “the concert before the concert”.  What do you mean by that?

The operation begins long before the operation itself.  First, you have to examine the surface of the eye using a special diagnostic machine.  Then, we use a certain type of technology to bring that surface into its ideal state.  And finally, we take measurements of not only the corneal surface, but the inside of the eye, as well.  After all, astigmatism affects both the back and the front of the eye.

And not all doctors look into these things?

Some doctors aren’t even aware that astigmatism can occur on the inside of the eye.  We make measurements, using a special formula to select a lens for that particular eye.  Only after that can the new lens be introduced.  And if the procedure wasn’t quite enough, the follow-up work is guaranteed successful with laser correction.  If the patient is well-prepared for surgery, we can guarantee a good result.  They may even end up with better vision than they had before the cataracts.

You had mentioned something before about a single course of eyedrops.  Why is this cocktail of drops better than the usual protocols?

Drops are not covered by insurance.  And those that are covered must be used continuously, so people often miss doses, or aren’t prescribed enough drops, or people lose their drops and start to worry, all of which often leads to inflammation and not-very-good vision.

Then why don’t all doctors use this cocktail?

Because not everyone knows about it.  You also have to know how to introduce the drug, in order to avoid cosmetic damage.

Do you guarantee the implementation of these new machines?

Of course, but now we can offer this guarantee with even more confidence and achieve even better results.  Do you want to have sharp, high-resolution vision?  Do you want to be able to see both near and far?  People insist on much higher standards than before.  Any fool, I’m afraid, can remove your cataracts and install a multifocal lens, but can they save you from the need for glasses?

Would you be happy with the services you received?  Or would you say, “they tried everything, but it didn’t work, because I have dry eyes, astigmatism, or whatever else..”  The Benjamin Eye Institute makes no such excuses.  If we agree to do the operation, then it is guaranteed.  I will not promise something in absentia.  About 30% of the patients say, “do something so that I don’t have to wear glasses.”  It is impossible, though, to make an a priori promise.  You first have to be a qualified patient for the procedure.  It also must be understood that while one lens fits one person, it will not fit another.  The best results don’t just fall out of the sky.

First of all, the doctor must be open to learning new things.  Secondly, they need the necessary equipment.  It is impossible to do on a standard set of equipment.  Thirdly, your colleagues must be highly-qualified, as well.  Fourth, you need a good surgical center.  All of these things, though, are very expensive.  In order to perform laser cataract surgery, resources are needed that aren’t available to just anyone.  Consequently, the most important thing underlying our guarantee is our laser center.  If you want to rejuvenate your eyes, and regain the vision you had in your 20s, it will require the entire sum of our efforts.

– Я свое уж отыграл, однако замечаю, что после долгой работы с компьютером растет поголовье мелкого скота, т.е. мушек в глазах и начинается головная боль.


– Если у вас нету бабушки, придется сделать самому какие-то организационные выводы, тем более, что зима здесь солнечная.


– Вернемся к вечной теме КАТАРАКТЫ. Поступили вопросы. Мы говорили о “концерте до концерта”, можно детальнее?


– Операция начинается задолго до операции. Сперва нужно оптимизировать поверхность глаза, чему и служат диагностические машины. Затем нужна технология для идеализации этой поверхности, после чего делаются все измерения, причем не только наружные, т.е. на поверхности роговицы, но и внутренние. Ведь астигматизм бывает не только на передней части роговицы, но и на задней.


– Не все так просто, как погляжу. Не все врачи туда заглядывают?


– Многие врачи даже не знают о существовании астигматизма внутренней поверхности роговицы. Потом мы делаем измерения, используя специальные формулы для подгонки, т.е. выбора хрусталика для конкретного глаза. И только после этого делается операция, внедряется хрусталик. И если вдруг даже этого оказалось мало, то последующая доводка гарантируется нашей лазерной коррекцией. Поэтому, когда пациент приходит к нам, и он годится для операции, мы полностью гарантируем хороший результат. То есть такое зрение, которого у него не было даже до того, как появилась катаракта.


– Вы упоминали разработанный вами коктейль капель, который вводится лишь один раз. Чем он лучше обычных?


– Какие-то капли, бывает, не покрываются страховкой; те, что покрываются – нужно постоянно капать, люди промахиваются, капель не хватает, они их теряют, начинают волноваться, а даже если не волнуются, воспалительный процесс приводит к тому, что зрение в итоге «не очень» и результаты, мягко скажем, не лучшие. Все должно работать как часовой механизм.


– Почему ж тогда не все врачи применяют бескапельный метод?


– Потому что не все умеют. Нужно же уметь внедрять это лекарство так, чтобы оно не мешало косметически, чтобы не было никаких повреждений.


– Какого рода гарантию вы даете и давали ли ее раньше, до получения всех этих новинок техники?


– Давали и раньше, но сейчас можем давать с еще большей уверенностью и добиваться даже лучших результатов. Есть разные уровни достижений. Ты хочешь чтобы у тебя было острое, высокого разрешения зрение ? Хочешь, чтобы было и вдаль и вблизи? Требования у людей к своему зрению сегодня гораздо выше, чем раньше. Любой дурак, простите, может удалить катаракту и установить вам мультифокальный хрусталик. Но избавит ли вас это от нужды в очках?


– Свидетельствую: нет.


– Будешь ли ты довольствоваться тем, что получил? Или опять тебе скажут: «Вы знаете, вот у всех это работает, а у вас не получилось, потому что у вас сухость глаз, астигматизм, еще что-то, еще что-то». У нас в 

нет таких отговорок. Если уж мы беремся за операцию, – а для того, чтобы знать, можно ли браться, нужно все тщательно исследовать, – то и даем гарантию. Я же не могу всем заочно что-то сулить. Около 30% пациентов говорят: сделайте так, чтобы у меня не было очков для дали и для близи. Это нельзя априорно обещать. Нужно быть квалифицированным пациентом для той или иной процедуры. А как определить, кому можно что-то делать, а кому нельзя? Для этого нужна вся описанная диагностика. Нужно же понимать, что одним этот хрусталик подходит, другим нет. ⭐️ My review of LASIK after one year ⭐️I told Dr. Benjamin I would do this a while ago, but I kind of feel like it says a lot I have kept this on my checklist for a year. I feel like a year is a good amount of time to review a procedure like this and give my honest thoughts and recommendation.So, let me tell you about my journey to getting LASIK and how I ended up in the amazing care of Dr. Benjamin. After going to an optometrist for years and him advising against LASIK because of my genetically dry eyes, I finally got a second opinion from an ophthalmologist (Dr. Benjamin). I didn’t know the difference between an optometrist vs. opthalmologist, but once I learned it kind of made sense why my optometrist didn’t want me getting LASIK lol. Because he couldn’t sell me on contact lenses or glasses for the foreseeable future if I got my vision corrected :) I mean, who knows, but I am glad I got a second opinion.I figured being in Los Angeles with some of the best doctors in the world… if anyone is going to touch my big, blue eyeballs, might as well get it done while I’m here. I found this business due to the reviews and they seemed to really know what they were doing and how to talk to clients.Upon meeting Dr. Benjamin he told me that I wasn’t a candidate for LASIK with my dry eyes, but he could put me through treatments for dry eyes and reevaluate after; and that these treatments had a good success rate for most.So, I started doing two treatments every other week for about 2.5 months - IPL laser treatment and Lipiflow. Lipiflow, especially, was a weird painless experience but highly recommend anyone with dry eyes to ask about it regardless of LASIK. I could tell my eyes felt way less dry a couple days after each treatment. There are videos on YouTube that talk about this treatment… Who knew this stuff existed. I’m not gonna lie, it’s an investment to do all these treatments on top of LASIK, but my eyes rarely feel dry anymore so if you’re going to get it done - do it right.Finally, I was approved for LASIK. I ended up waiting until the end of year to make sure I saved up the funds to do it and had some time to heal. I also took advantage of an end of year deal they were offering. $1000 off was a pretty nice forcing function to get me to finally do it after prepping my eyes with the treatments. The procedure itself I couldn’t feel anything even though I was awake the entire time (medicated). Even the scary part when bubbles form on your eyes Dr. Benjamin let me know about in advance so when it happened I just went with the flow. I think the worst part was the recovery the few days after and coming home drugged up lol. I remember day 1 thinking omg what did I do to my eyes. My eyes just hurt and felt weird, but omg I could see 20/15 immediately. And then, day by day it gradually got better. It took a few weeks for my eyes to heal, but after 1 month you couldn’t even tell I had surgery. One eye was a bit more bloodshot than the other.I can see 20/15. It’s been life changing for the past year not having to worry about contacts or glasses. I just got married and was able to walk down the aisle with clear vision. I only wish I had the means to have done this earlier in life. If you’re considering it - do it! And definitely consider Dr. Benjamin to do it right.Lastly, to continue treating my dry eyes, Dr. Benjamin gave me an extra LipiFlow treatment, and also recommended I try punctal plugs (painless plugs inserted into your lids that help your tears last longer). He placed the plugs in my eyes under 5 mins. Wild.I heard from people during the LASIK process they have been nervous to get the procedure so I wrote this to help and because I think highly of this business for changing my life. And, some of the dry eye treatments I would’ve never known about had it not been for them. Again, I wish I would have had been able to do this years ago. It is so, so worth it!Thank you, Dr. Benjamin (and staff!)

Concerned about a reoccurring virus, I text Dr Benjamin’s office first thing in the morning seeking immediate advice and an appointment. In quick time I received both sage advice and a same day appointment. Dr B takes a personal interest in his patients well being and has diligent, competent and attentive staff to support the care and support needed. Can’t speak highly enough.

Dr Benjamin and Alba were great. He is very professional, kind and with clear explanations. I had an eyelid quick surgery and I’m just missing the glasses prescription, I left the office and forgot to ask for it. But he and his team were amazing!
